The Green Rides Initiative är en plan för att årsvis öka andelen eldrivna taxibilar i New York City. Från och med 2024 ställer staden krav på bolag som Uber och Lyft att öka andelen elbilar i sina taxiflottor. Totalt har staden drygt 13 000 taxibilar medan Lyft och Uber tillsammans har mer än 78 000 bilar.

The Green Rides Initiative will require high-volume for-hire services (HVFHSs), a license category that currently includes Uber and Lyft, to have fleets comprised entirely of either zero- emission vehicles (ZEVs),1 including electric vehicles (EVs), or wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) in New York City by 2030.

Som första stora stad i världen har New York antagit en plan för att stegvis byta bensindrivna bilar mot eldrivna motsvarigheter.
Along with Green Rides, the city is working as part of PlaNYC to ensure that every New Yorker lives within 2.5 miles of an electric vehicle charging station by 2035 and electrify school buses and the city’s fleet, while pursuing legislative changes to require that private parking garages and lots make electric vehicle charging available.
